Dinner Party

Tom & Helen Price attend Lifepointe Cary and are passionate about hosting people in their home for dinner. Check out their thoughts below for practical tips on gathering people together for a meal.

Usually we meet someone at church on Sunday and invite them! Tip: Decide on days of the week each month that are your nights to have people over. This will make it that much easier to find a date that works for everyone.

We have done dinners in two ways. First, we make the meal and our guests may bring a dessert. Or, we host a potluck and ask everyone to bring a dish.

We really don’t need much to start conversations, but along the way we’ll ask simple questions to learn more about their lives -i.e. where they’re from, what they do, etc. As the host, I try to steer the conversation along these lines if it doesn’t happen naturally.

Small groups of people gathering together is a natural way to connect. We think potlucks work better than full-scale meals, because it makes everyone feel more a part of the gathering. It also takes some of the work load off the hosts, which makes it easier to want to host again!
